Edmontonians will see a 3.85% tax increase in 2011
City council passed a budget on Thursday morning calling for a 3.85 percent tax increase.
The move will see a $60 increase for a $330,000 home, and a $38 increase in utilities.
Council voted 11 to 2 in favour of the budget.
The increase will pay for construction in six crumbling neighbourhoods, the continued operation of Scona Pool, Sunday hours at all but one Edmonton Public Library branches and grass maintenance on public land.
"I don't think that we could have gotten any better still delivering the services that we are delivering. Certainly it could have been lower, but we would have had to eliminate some things," said Councillor Tony Caterina.
But Councillor Linda Sloan, who voted against the budget, says that this increase doesn't reflect the true cost of running the city.
The 3.85% increase is lower than the 4% that was projected earlier this week.
