On Friday, the Alberta government announced a significant investment into the Stollery Children's Hospital and the University of Alberta Hospital.

The investment is part of the three year capital plan, and will see $25 million going to the Stollery.

Several projects in the children's hospital can now move forward. A section of the hospital will be rennovated to become the pediatric ICU. Other renovations will create more operating-room space and four new ICU beds.

Dr. Ivan Reveyka of the Stollery said these changes could potentially bring an end to waiting times for heart surgeries for children.

"Within a number of months, the waiting list can virtually disappear...and that's what we're working towards," Dr. Reveyka said.

Updates to the hospital's medical equipment will be a tool in recruiting and keeping doctors at the Stollery.

"We have to keep up with state of the art equipment, we have to keep up with state of the art technology, and attrack and retain the best-possible surgeons we can, as well as all the staff that surrounds them," said Health Minister Gene Zwozdesky.
