A downtown arena was once again on the agenda for Edmonton's City Council.

On Friday morning, the new CEO of Northlands addressed council for the first time. Richard Andersen made a 25-minute presentation, outlining the company's history with the city, saying they are an agency driven by partnership in community building.

Andersen said if a new arena is to be built downtown with public dollars, Northlands should be at the table.

"Ultimately, what organization or who is in the best position to manage this facility? And I would strongly suggest that Northlands, given all the reasons I provided earlier, is the ideal organization," Andersen told council.

The presentation was followed by a number of questions from councillors. More debate is being planned on the issue.

City council is planning on discussing the downtown arena district again in the new year.
