ST. PAUL- Hundreds of people gathered in the town of St. Paul Friday night, to remember the young girl who died when a van crashed into her school Thursday morning.
A vigil was held at Racette School, in honour of grade six student Megan Wolitski.
Friends and other community members placed flowers and stuffed animals at the site where the van slammed into the grade six french class.
It was a sombre ceremony, as members of the small community lit candles and joined together in prayer.
"I just came out tonight to pray for her to live. I just found out on the five o'clock news that she passed away," said a woman whose daughter goes to the school.
The community also used the vigil to pray for two other girls who remain in hospital. One of the young girls has been upgraded to stable condition while the other remains in critical condition.
"We were praying. Look at all the prayers that went up, all the tears. We pray to God, our father, to be merciful to the family to comfort them, give them hope and rejoice in the life of these children," said Irene Pawlowski.
The entire community has offered up their support for the Wolitski's family, as well as the families of the two girls who remain in hospital.
"I want them to know they aren't alone, that we have a whole town of 6,000 people that are feeling the same way they do," said Shauna Burke, whose daughter is in grade eight at Racette School.
