EDMONTON - Police are issuing another warning after a third woman was randomly assaulted while walking home from a pub.
The latest incident happened on Sunday at about 2 a.m. A 23-year-old woman was walking alone from a bar in the area of 84 Avenue and 109 Street, when a man came up behind her and allegedly began choking her. The woman managed to fight him off and screamed for help, causing the suspect to flee the scene. The woman received some scrapes and bruising, and reported the incident to police the next day.
Investigators believe that this assault, as well as similar ones on March 28 and 20, all involve the same suspect - a man between 5'4" and 6" tall and approximately 150 lbs., with a slim build. He was wearing blue jeans and may be wearing a white, black or grey hoodie.
"We are very concerned and are doing everything we can to identify the suspect responsible for these assaults," said Det. Rob Chan of Southeast Division in a release.
Police are asking anyone who thinks they may have any information on the suspect - regardless of how trivial it may seem - to contact them as it may help them in their investigations.
In the meantime, residents are asked to be careful.
"We want to remind all citizens to be extra vigilant while walking at night, to be aware of their surroundings at all times and to report suspicious persons or activity to police immediately," adds Det. Chan.
