Search for missing soldier called off
Edmonton police and military personnel from the Edmonton Garrison have called off the search for a soldier missing since Thursday morning.
"We haven't found anything," said EPS spokesperson Claire Seyler. "There's nothing to suggest where he might be."
Master Corporal Richard Curnow disappeared early Thursday morning during a training run in Edmonton's river valley.
Police, military personnel and Edmonton Fire Rescue members have all contributed to the search, which has also utilized boats and a helicopter with an infrared camera.
Police will now treat Curnow's disappearance as a missing person's case.
Military officials say their active search is ending as well, though they aren't giving up on finding Curnow.
"We're calling off the physical search but we're not giving up," said Lt.-Col. William Fletcher. "We're certainly very optimistic we'll find Master Cpl. Curnow alive and well somewhere."
Curnow's wife Justine MacKenzie-Curnow says family and friends aren't giving up either and will continue their search.
