Busy construction season looms

City of Edmonton crews are set to tackle dozens of major road projects this summer, at a cost of nearly $300-million.

"Many of our large, high-profile special projects are entering their final construction phases," says Byron Nicholson with the city's Capital Construction team.

The city will be spending an estimate $285-million on 36 major arterial road projects, 12 intersection paving sites and 18 special projects.

"We will be wrapping up work on both the Quesnell Bridge and the 23 Avenue Interchange this summer, and launching new projects that will enhance the City’s transportation network."

Among the major projects scheduled for this summer:

  • *23 Avenue Interchange
  • *The Quesnell Bridge widening and rehabilitation
  • *Whitemud Drive/17 Street Interchange
  • *Fort Road from 131 Avenue to 134 Avenue – rehabilitation work
  • *Scona Road and 99 Street Rehabilitation
  • *Rabbit Hill Road, south of 23 Avenue to Riverbend Road – widening
  • *Northeast Snow Storage Facility
  • *St. Albert Trail rehabilitation
  • *137 Avenue, 142 Street to 156 Street widening and rehabilitation
