Day 9 of Royal Visit: What Kate Middleton wore today
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge kicked off Day 9 of their Canadian Royal Visit in true Stampede style. What did Kate wear on her last day in Canada? Here's a quick look:
The outfit
Prince William and Kate both wore their custom Smithbilt white cowboy hats as the couple arrived to the Calgary Stampede Parade.
While Will opted for a buttoned-down navy and green plaid shirt, Kate wore a camisole under a sheer white blouse by London-based Alice Temperley and jeans, quite similar to the look she was wearing yesterday evening. As usual, Kate wore her hair loose in soft waves.
The designer
Alice Temperley’s fashion label, Temperley London, was launched in 2000. The British designer was awarded the English Print Designer of the Year in 1999 at Indigo, Paris as well as the Best Young Designer of the Year Award in 2004 by Elle Magazine. In 2006, Temperley was named one of Britain’s top 35 female business leaders.
On Day 8 of the Royal Visit, Kate arrived at Calgary International Airport in a yellow silk crepe dress by Jenny Packham, while William donned a navy suit and tie.
Kate's wardrobe choices are a source of great interest for many fashion fans.
Outfits worn by the Duchess of Cambridge in recent months have often lead to a spike in demand for retailers -- and her Canadian tour is no exception.
Kate set off a flurry of buzz before even leaving British soil when she was seen wearing a navy blazer from Toronto-based label Smythe.
The two lace dresses worn by Kate from Canadian label Erdem have also sparked interest.
After the parade, the couple headed to the Calgary Zoo to look at some futuristic energy-saving devices. Then they were to travel to a park beside the Calgary airport for a military send-off before leaving for to Los Angeles.
Wardrobe change
After the Stampede, the royal couple was taken by Alberta Premier Ed Stelmach and his wife Marie on a tour of the Enmax Conservatory on St. George's Island near downtown Calgary.
Kate wore a satin and wool scarlet Marianne coat-dress by Catherine Walker. Once again, the Duchess wore The Queen's Maple Leaf brooch, a pair of L.K. Bennett nude pumps and a matching clutch.
The fashion show overall
"Overall, on her Royal Visit to Canada I think Kate did what she needed to do as the Duchess of Cambridge," says Angela Smith, fashion commentator for Entertainment Tonight Canada. "She dressed appropriately for the circumstances and not her fans or the fashion industry. In my opinion she's not a fashion icon but rather a diplomat who dresses with purpose. She's carefully crafting each wardrobe choice and I find it thought-provoking to try and assess the reasons behind her selection. Kate proved somewhat predictable and safe but at the same time diplomatic and classy. I would still try and sass her up a wee bit."
