Missing Alberta couple
UPDATE: Tuesday July 20, Travis Vader is still referred to as a 'person of interest'. Police continue to search the house in MacKay where Vader was found on Monday.
77-year old Marie McCann and 78-year old Lyle McCann were last seen on July 3, 2010. The couple was planning on travelling from their St. Albert home in their motorhome, making stops along the way. The were to meet their daughter Trudy Holder at the Abbotsford airport on Saturday July 10 – but Marie and Lyle never showed up. The couple’s family called the police immediately and reported them missing.
In the meantime, police had been called to a campground near Edson, Alberta, where a motorhome was found engulfed in flames. When the missing persons report was filed on July 10, police linked the two cases together, and discovered it was the motorhome of Marie and Lyle McCann. No bodies were found in the motorhome, and the couple’s light green Hyundai Tucson could not be found until Friday July 16.
On Friday July 16 RCMP identify a "person of interest" in the case of a missing elderly Alberta couple - a man police described as dangerous and whom authorities said the public should not try to approach.
At a news conference Friday July 16, police identified Travis Edward Vader as someone they are trying to locate and talk to about the McCanns. On Monday July 19, police arrested Travis Vader at a home in MacKay on outstanding warrants unrelated to the McCann case. Police also arrested at second man on July 19 - police continue to question this man, but have not released his name.
