May 11th is McHappy Day - when one dollar from every Big Mac sandwich, Happy Meal, Premium Roast Coffee and Premium Tea sold goes to local children's charities across the country, such as Ronald McDonald House.

Global Meteorologist Nicola Crosbie will be broadcasting live on location from the McDonalds on 51 Avenue and Calgary Trail for the Noon News Hour.

Carole Anne Guay and John Sexsmith are also putting their burger flipping skills to use over the lunch hour. This will be Guay's first foray into the restaurant industry - but - given the cause - she's going to try her best.

"I'm going into this totally blind," she says. "I'm just hoping people will be patient."

Sexsmith is a McHappy Day veteran. He's taken part in the annual event for eight years now, and has a personal connection to this Edmonton restaurant.

"I've become a regular there," he says. As a high school student at Harry Ainley, he and his friends used to frequent the same McDonalds for lunch. "I'm happy to help out there," he says.

Across Canada, athletes, politicians, media partners, and celebrities will work alongside McDonald's owner-operators and employees to raise funds for local charities.

McHappy Day began in Canada, but is now celebrated around the world. Since its inception, McHappy Day has raised more than $32 million for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Canada, and hundreds of other local children's charities.
