EDMONTON- "What do I want to do with my life?" It's a question many young people face and the City of Edmonton is hoping to help them answer it.
The city's third annual youth career symposium was held at the Fantasyland Hotel on Saturday.
Young people from across the city came together to receive information on career planning and see the job opportunities the City of Edmonton has to offer.
"The city offers, really, a great opportunity, very diversified for anybody who wants to come work in a very creative and dynamic environment," explained Mayor Stephen Mandel. "You're got things from accountants to lawyers, from lawyers to engineers, from engineers to planners, et cetera, et cetera. So, there's tremendous professional opportunities."
"We hope the kids will see that and look to the city as their future," Mandel added.
Nearly 50 organizations were on hand to help participants sculpt essential skills from putting together a resume to how to handle a job interview.
"We have firefighters here, we have police (officers) here, we also have planners and engineers talking about their career path, their career journey, how they became an engineer, and it's a chance for the participants to really know the personal story and the path of these professionals," said Nija Jalal, a recruitment consultant with the City of Edmonton.
Over 300 youths took part in Saturday's symposium.
