Police are investigating the death of a 25-year-old woman, who's death has now been ruled a homicide.
She was found unresponsive in a basement suite of an apartment complex at 153 Street and 101 Avenue around 6:00am on Wednesday.
Officers were alerted to the situation after a man arrived at the West Division Station and made them aware.
“There was an individual, a 27-year old male, who arrived at West Division Station to alert police about this particular situation," says EPS spokesperson Lisa Sobchyshyn.
“Our patrol members responded immediately and upon arrival they discovered this woman."
“She was given some emergency CPR by our members. They were able to revive her. She was taken immediately to hospital but died within an hour of arrival at hospital," Sobchyshyn explains.
The death is being classified as homicide.
Edmonton Police have now charged 27-year old Trevor Toews with second degree murder. He’s due in court August 9.
The autopsy was conducted Thursday, and determined the cause of death to be asphyxia due to strangulation.
The victim has been identified as 25-year-old Alexandra Noble.
Neighbours say the woman was friendly, and the mother of a young child.
“I didn’t see anything, just heard a bunch of kids screaming and crying,” says Julia Jones, who lives in the apartment building.
She's lived in the building for two years and says this is the first time anything of this nature has happened.
“Really actually surprised, more than anything surprised. Nothing like that ever happens in our apartment," adds Jones.
This is Edmonton’s 15th homicide of the year.
