A sudden thunderstorm hit Calgary and surrounding areas around 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, sparking a flood of 9-1-1 calls.Pelting rain, thunder, lightning and strong wind gusts were reported around the city and a number of nearby towns were hit as well.The fast-moving storm cleared many areas in about half an hour, but left lots of damage behind.Emergency crews were called to more than 130 reports of downed trees, signs, power lines and fences that had been downed.One viewer even shot footage of the sign approaching Deerfoot Trail and 32nd Ave NE blowing around, which eventually broke apart.
Window washers were stranded downtown during the storm. Nancy Hixt was at the scene.
