CALGARY- Insurance companies are bringing in extra appraisers and repair technicians to handle the flood of claims from Sunday night’s hail storm.
A damage estimate won’t be available for weeks, but the total could come close to the $400 million damage from the hail storms in the summer of 2010.
The storm moved from the city’s northwest to the southeast, leaving a trail of damage.
Golf-ball sized hail pounded communities, damaging siding and roofing shingles, denting thousands of vehicles and shredding gardens.
Ron Biggs, of Intact Insurance, says if you’re making a claim it’s best to submit it sooner rather than later.
“It's okay to be patient but the sooner they can get the claim reported to us the sooner we can help assess the damages and get their houses or vehicles repaired. The longer they wait, the longer obviously it takes us to get that process going.”
Insurance companies will be setting up temporary drive-in claim centres within the next few days.
