The Edmonton family that was killed in a tragic collision in the B.C. Interior has been identified.
Their names are 47 year old Behnam Shokri, 37 year old Shirin Hamedi Khorasani and their two children, 6 year old Daniel Shokri and 3 year old Delina Shokri.
The mother, father and two children were driving to California when their vehicle slid into the path of a tractor trailer just north of the town of Barriere, which is about 65 kilometers north of Kamloops.
The family was moving from Edmonton, where the father worked as a designer for A.J. Interiors Inc. for the past two and a half years, to San Francisco for a new job.
The staff of 20 at the local company is devastated. A spokesperson said Shokri was a loyal employee.
His last day was Monday.
Police say the highway was icy and the vehicle the family was in only had all season tires.
“The information that I have is that seatbelts were worn, but that the children may not have been in an age appropriate restraint,” says coroner Mark Coleman, "However, in this particular case, given the extent of the damage to the vehicle and the injuries the occupants sustained, I would not want to speculate if it would have made any difference to the outcome. I think that would have been extremely unlikely.”
Global News has been told the family had no other family here with most of the relatives in Iran and they have been notified.
