Two young sisters are fighting for their lives after falling through a layer of ice and into a body of water, in a rural area west of Red Deer.
It happened around 10:20 a.m. on Friday.
The two girls, aged 3 and 5, were submerged for an unknown amount of time.
The sisters were taken hospital in Red Deer, in critical life-threatening condition.
STARS air ambulance dispatched one unit from Calgary and one from Edmonton, which both flew to the Red Deer Regional Hospital. After being treated in hospital, the girls were then transported by STARS for further treatment in Edmonton.
