A man and woman are dead following two crashes in the greater Edmonton area this weekend.
51 year old Christine Marie Jarvis of Edmonton was killed Saturday afternoon after her motorcycle collidedwith a car near Leduc on Highway 39 at the intersection of Highway 60. She died at the scene, while the driver of the car suffered minor injuries.
Cpl. Jeffery Fox of the Leduc RCMP says alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the collision, and that the investigation is ongoing.
Meanwhile in Edmonton, a 22 year-old motorcyclist died after losing control of his motorcycle and hitting a tree around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday.
It happened in a residential area on the city's north end near 153 Avenue and 59 A Street. A Good Samaritan driving by stopped to give the man CPR, but was unable to save him.
Police believe speed was a factor in this crash.
Motorists travelling to the west side of the city from the north end are asked to use alternative routes this morning, including 137 Avenue, 167 Avenue or 144 Avenue, instead of 153 Avenue, while the EPS Traffic Section continues to investigate this fatal collision.
It's Edmonton's 18th traffic fatality of the year and second involving a motorcycle.
