A Grande Prairie mother says her son is in desperate pain, and she's calling on the provincial government to fund a drug that could save his life.

Noella Richarde's nine-year-old Ethan has Job Syndrome. It's a rare condition that causes chronic asthma and skin infections.

A drug called Xolair has improved his health, but it's not covered by his mother's insurance plan or the province. At $3,000.00 a month - she can't afford it, so she has no choice but to simply keep her son on pain killers.

"We found a drug that was saving my son's life, and now we can't get it and it is in this province." Richarde told Global News on Thursday.

Noella Richarde spoke with Health Minister Gene Zwozdesky Thursday afternoon.

He says he's consulting experts about Xolair to determine if it's an appropriate treatment for the province to fund.
