Edmontonians reach out to help Grande Prarie boy
After Global News shared the story of 9-year-old Ethan Richarde on Thursday, a local radio station has taken up his cause and calls and donations have been flooding in.
Ethan, from Grande Prarie, has Job Syndrome. It's a rare condition that causes chronic asthma and skin infections. The medication, which costs $3000 a month, isn't covered by his mothers health care plan.
Noella Richarde came to Edmonton to try to raise awareness about their situation.
The Terry, Bill and Steve show on K-97 is playing a huge part in helping Ethan, this morning they put up a guitar auction to help the young boy. Three autographed guitars were given to the highest bidders for donating to Ethan's treatment fund. Listeners were also quick to call in and donate, without even being involved in the bid.
By 9:00 Friday morning, over $20,000 had already come in.
Warren Ruben, knew when we heard the young boy's story that he had to donate.
"When I heard the little boy asking his mom 'find somebody to kill me please' I just about started crying, meanwhile my 2 and a half year old boy is sitting in his car seat we're going to drop him off at daycare, and I told my girlfriend I'm going to rush back and make it before 9am so I can get some help to this little guy"
On top of help from listeners and viewers, K-97 has also donated $5,000 towards Ethan's cause. The money donated so far will pay for almost a year's worth of treatment for Ethan while the family waits for the province to decide on funding for the drug.
