Snowfall warning issued for Edmonton and surrounding areas

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for Edmonton and surrounding areas, including many areas northeast of the city.

EDMONTON- Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for Edmonton and surrounding areas, including many areas northeast of the city.

The Edmonton region north towards Wabasca will see snow start to fall by Thursday morning. Up to 10 centimetres of the white stuff is expected to fall by Thursday evening.

Wind gusts up to 50 kilometres per hour are expected for the Edmonton area Thursday afternoon, which will produce blowing snow throughout the region.

Areas northeast of Edmonton, including Bonnyville and Fort McMurray, will see between 10 and 15 centimetres of snow by Thursday evening. These regions will also continue to see strong winds with gust up to 70 kilometres per hour, Wednesday night.

Environment Canada says the strong winds combined with heavy snow will significantly reduce visibility, due to blowing snow, creating hazardous driving conditions Wednesday night.
