It’s been a week into the Edmonton Police Service’s Operation Warrant Execution and the police have cleared nearly 600 warrants from the books.
Operation Warrant Execution (OWE) asked residents in the Edmonton area with outstanding warrants to come forward and clear up the issue or face public embarrassment through having their names published or having police show up at their door.
In the first week, EPS executed 579 warrants and made 292 arrests.
The warrants range from the minor traffic violation to more violent crimes.
The campaign will run until April 2nd when it moves into the second phase. That’s when police will start to advertise names in local newspapers and police will start showing up at workplaces and at home to execute the warrant.
At the beginning of March, there were 16, 000 outstanding warrants in the city.
Individuals can go to any local police station to deal with an outstanding warrant.
