EDMONTON - On the heels of a heavy dumping of snow in Edmonton, the City is declaring a seasonal parking ban for residential bus routes. The ban will take effect Friday, November 9th at 7 a.m. and will continue until the plowing is complete across the city.
"With approximately 25 centimetres of snowfall (Wednesday), we need to be able to plow from curb to curb to remove snow and avoid the dangerous narrowing of traffic lanes," says Bob Dunford, Director of Roadway Maintenance in a release. "It is essential that road crews be able to remove snow to ensure the continued safe passage of commuter, transit and emergency vehicles. The parking ban on residential bus routes allows crews to do their jobs."
Last year, seasonal parking bans were imposed twice. Parking enforcement officers will be out Friday morning, looking for cars that haven't moved.
"Any vehicles that are parked along those signed bus routes will be subject to ticket and towing," said Erin Blaine with City of Edmonton Parking Enforcement.
"I knew I was supposed to move today," admits Tony Dalessio, after receiving a ticket Friday morning.
"There's no where to park... I guess I'll have to take somebody's parking spot and hope to get lucky."
"I got a text from my wife," says Aric Keane, "she said we have a ticket and have to move the van."
Keane says he wasn't aware there was a parking ban impacting the side of the street he normally parks on.
“I like the snow. The snow’s good… minus the ticket,” he adds.
The city would also like to remind Edmontonians that they have 48 hours following a snowfall to clear their sidewalks.
