What a difference a day makes. Between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. Thursday, Edmonton Police say 118 property damage collisions and 14 injury collisions were reported.
That compares to Wednesday's numbers for the same time period of 195 property damage collisions and 12 injury collisions.
Lisa Sobchyshyn, spokesperson for the Edmonton Police Service, says not everyone files a report right away, and sometimes it takes motorists two or three days to do so. Therefore, the collision numbers for Thursday could be reflective of that delay.
However, weather still caused traffic delays Thursday morning. Alberta Motor Association reported Highway 37 was closed just west of Namao, around 10:30 Thursday morning.
Bus service was cancelled Thursday morning for a few areas in the Edmonton region. The City of Edmonton has issued an update on road clearing efforts.
The list includes:
Parkland School Division #70
Black Gold School Division
Wild Rose School Division for students who live in Parkland County, the City of Spruce Grove, the town of Stony Plain, and Devon
There is no school bus service to Elk Island Schools, including Sherwood Park, Strathcona County, Fort Saskatchewan, Lamont County, including Andrew, Mundare, Bruderheim, Minburn, including the town of Vegreville.
Laboucan buses are cancelled, as well as Elk Island Catholic school buses. St. Paul Education #T5H and M3 is cancelled.
Kipohtakaw Education is cancelled, as is Mother Earth Children's Charter.
All bus service to St. Albert Greater Catholic Schools has been cancelled. That includes Legal, Morinville, and St. Albert.
City of Edmonton Roadway Maintenance crews worked through the night on November 7 and into the morning of November 8, focusing their attention on arterial roads, bridges and hills in preparation for the Thursday morning commute.
There were 81 hired graders brought in overnight to bolster the City’s progress and City crews will continuing their work on main roads through the day.
City officials are advising motorists to drive for the conditions as they make their way through the city as there will still be some areas that are slick. Officials say keep a safe distance between vehicles and brake carefully, and to have vehicles clear of ice and snow before starting out so as to improve visibility.
Sanders and graders have been working through the night to deal with Wednesday's massive snowfall, but drivers and pedestrians should beware the glare ice at many intersections Thursday.
However, the weather outlook is far rosier Thursday, with just a 30 per cent chance of light snow and temperatures holding steady around -9. The same pattern continues overnight.
