RCMP in Whitecourt say a drunk man who allegedly wanted to “go to war” with police fired a shotgun 15 times inside his apartment suite and twice more out the kitchen window into the parking lot over a two-hour period — but nobody called police to tell them about it.
The incident began on Saturday night just before midnight, RCMP said in a news release Tuesday.
“It is alleged that (the suspect) hoped someone would call the police,” the release said.
“In frustration that the police were not responding to his apartment,” the man walked to the RCMP detachment early Sunday and approached police there. The man, who was bleeding, was arrested without incident, police said.
RCMP later obtained a search warrant and seized eight long-barrel firearms and more than 3,000 rounds of ammunition from the man’s top-floor suite in the Hillcrest Apartments building.
“Police believe that someone had to have witnessed this event, either hearing or seeing something from the top floor of Hillcrest Apartments,” the release added.
Cody Wayne Hunter-Hooper, 23, has been charged with careless use of a firearm and mischief. He was set to appear in court Tuesday.
