CALGARY- The body of a B.C. man who went missing after falling down a crevasse in Yoho National Park has been recovered.
Mark Taylor, the general manager of Parks for the city of Abbotsford, was one of three people backcountry skiing last Tuesday evening when the accident happened. Two others activated a search and rescue beacon as soon as he fell, but due to bad weather rescue crews were not able to get to the area.
On Tuesday afternoon, two rescue teams successfully made it to the Wapta Traverse, with plans to safely enter the crevasse. They had to shovel through several metres of snow inside the crevasse to extricate the victim.
Everyone is now off the mountain, and the case is now with the B.C. coroner.
