Police investigate shooting in southwest Edmonton neighbourhood

EDMONTON- Edmonton police are investigating, after a man was shot in a southwest Edmonton neighbourhood.

The incident took place in the area of James Mowatt Trail and 26th Avenue SW around 5:15p.m. Friday.

Police say a witness found the victim slouched over the driver's seat of a parked vehicle and called police.

"Upon looking inside the vehicle, he noted that the male was in distress and looked like he'd been shot, so he called us," said Acting Inspector Erik Johnson with the Edmonton Police Service.

"Upon our arrival we did find a male suffering from several gun shot wounds," Johnson added.

When officers arrived they began administering medical aid.

STARS Air Ambulance was called in to assist, and officials say the 30-year-old man was airlifted to the Royal Alexandra Hospital around 5:45p.m.

The man's condition is not known at this time however, Johnson says "he was able to speak to members while they were performing first aid on him, so we're hopeful that he's going to recover in hospital."

Johnson says the victim does not appear to have any ties to the area.

Several witnesses have been interviewed and police say they are now searching for a vehicle believe to have been involved in the incident.

"Right now we're looking for a white truck. It's a pretty basic description, obviously there's a lot of white trucks out there, so we're hopefully going to narrow down the description of the vehicle here once we interview all the witnesses," said Johnson.

Johnson says a weapon was recovered at the scene. Police have cordoned off the area as they continue to investigate.
