CALGARY – Prince William and Catherine are now in Southern Alberta.
Their plane touched down at the Shell AeroCentre in Calgary around 3:30p.m. Wednesday afternoon.
Accompanying their jet was several military helicopters and a waiting motorcade on the tarmac.
The couple arrived and left within minutes on one of three Canadian military helicopters which headed north.
A group of approximately two dozen royal watchers gathered for a sneak peak at the couple but could get no closer than the fence.
Many are speculating where the couple will spend some downtime Wednesday evening and Thursday morning. Rumours had them headed anywhere from Kananaskis Country to Jasper. Reports suggest the couple have touched down in Lake Louise.
Global News met with a Calgary couple who were in the area because they had a “hunch” that’s where William and Kate would be headed.
Sure enough, they spotted a motorcade driving up the ski hill where it met three military choppers.
The couple was flown to a private lodge five minutes away from the town.
Their next official appearance will be Thursday afternoon at the Calgary International Airport. William and Kate will take part in a White Hat Ceremony, a long-standing tradition in Calgary and a symbol of Western hospitality.
The Duke and Duchess weren’t the only VIPs to arrive in Calgary on Wednesday. Prime Minister Harper and his family landed in Calgary about two hours before William and Kate.
A large motorcade of security transported Harper to downtown Calgary. Harper will take part in a Government of Canada Reception at the BMO Centre for their Royal Highnesses Thursday evening.
2,500 lucky Calgarians who picked up their wristbands to the event Wednesday morning will have a chance to see William and Kate as they arrive at the event beginning at 7:30p.m.
