Lawn gone, but not for long

You can relax Edmonton, there is no north-end lawn thief absconding in the night with unguarded sod.

That was one of the explanations considered by homeowner Denise Thompson, who returned Sunday from a weekend trip to find that her front lawn had disappeared.

"I have heard a lot of jokes today like, 'Dude, where's my lawn?' That sort of thing," Thompson said Tuesday.

However, after giving it some thought, Thompson concluded that someone had made a mistake. An unlikely, improbable mistake, but a mistake just the same.

It turns out she was right.

On Monday evening Thompson found a note on her front door from Patrick Kukanu, owner of Kupak Landscapes Ltd., explaining what had happened.

"Saturday evening I went to see how he did the job," Kukanu said of a weekend trip to check up on one of his work crews. "And I realized that was not the place."

Kukanu says the work order was for a home three blocks away.

"We just want to say to Denise we are sorry, it's a mistake," Kukanu said.

Kukanu spoke to Thompson Monday evening and offered to have a crew replace the grass on next week.

Thompson admits she was angry initially, but ended up relieved by Kukanu's sincere apology and offer to make things right.

"It was really nice to know that they did feel bad about it," Thompson said.
