Arrest made in downtown sexual assaults

Edmonton police have arrested and charged a suspect in connection with a number of sexual assaults in the downtown area.

Between June 28th, and July 5th, investigators had reports from nine different complainants that they were approached from behind by a male suspect, who touched them inappropiately before fleeing the scene.

The incidents happened between 102 Street and 107 Street and Jasper Avenue between the hours of 3:00 pm and 9:00 pm.

Police put out a call for a suspect, who they described as aboriginal,s between 5’8” and 6’ feet tall with short, unkempt hair, a black baseball cap and a backpack.

On July 6th, officers from the Downtown Division CIS Project Team saw a person jaywalking in the area of 103 avenue and 103 street who matched the description.

The person was arrested shortly after on outstanding warrants.

Darrell Julian Walker, 39, has been charged with three counts of sexual assault, possession of stolen property under $5,000, illegal possession of government documents and possess credit card data.

Additional charges are pending.
