UPDATED: Man found dead in house fire identified

Police are investigating the city's seventh homicide of the year after a man was found dead in a house fire early Tuesday.

Edmonton police have identified the man found dead in a burning building Tuesday morning. 28-year old Philipp Jochen Woehrle was found deceased inside the house, and his death was ruled a homicide.

Homicide detectives are investigating the city's seventh homicide of 2012.

Early Tuesday morning, fire crews were called to a house fire on 117th Street and 129th Avenue. Police were called after firefighters found a man's body inside the building.

Edmonton police confirmed Thursday, the cause of the man's death to be homicide. The cause of his death is not being released at this time.

The man has not been identified however. he is believed to be in his late 20s.

The EPS Arson Unit is still investigating to determine the cause of the fire.

Officers are asking anyone with information regarding suspicious activities around the house in the last few months to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
