EDMONTON - Police confirm the death of a man in a north-end neighbourhood on Thursday is a homicide.
Officers were called to the area of 113 St and 167 Avenue around 7:30 p.m. Thursday, after people walking in the area came across a vehicle awkwardly parked in a caul-de-sac. When police arrived, they found a man dead behind the wheel of an SUV with what Insp. Bryan Nowlan described as "some obvious trauma to the body."
The victim has been identified as 26 year-old Chad Swanson of Edmonton. The cause of death, however, is not being released at this time for investigative purposes.
Shortly after his body was discovered, police at the scene said there was evidence to suggest that he was driving erratically before his vehicle came to a stop. They believed another vehicle may have also been involved.
Investigators canvassed the northside neighbourhood, no arrests have been made though and police are still looking for tips.
Anyone who may have information that can assist with the investigation is urged to contact the Edmonton Police Service at 780-423-4567. Anonymous information can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online.
This is Edmonton's 3rd homicide of 2012.
