The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is warning consumers not to eat certain Kirkland brand beef steaks, which may be contaminated with E. coli.
The steaks were sold at a Costco Wholesale store in Edmonton in variable weight packages, and the CFIA has confirmed they were produced by XL Foods Inc., which is currently involved in an extensive recall of ground beef.
Alberta Health Services is now confirming a ninth case of E. coli in Alberta. The latest case was reported to AHS, late Wednesday.
AHS says four of the nine cases of E. coli recently discovered in Alberta have been linked to the consumption of the Kirkland brand strip loin grilling steaks. The other five cases are currently being investigated.
Affected steaks were sold from September 4th to 7th and have one of the following ‘Packed On’ dates:
12 / SE / 04
12 / SE / 05
12 / SE / 06
12 / SE / 07
Consumers are advised to contact the Costco located at 13650-50 St. in Edmonton if they are affected by this alert.
For more information, consumers and industry can call the CFIA at 1-800-442-2342 / TTY 1-800-465-7735 (8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. ET, Monday to Friday).
