EDMONTON- Homicide detectives are investigating after a man was found dead in an apartment building just north west of Edmonton’s downtown core.
The man’s death is considered suspicious at this time, said Staff Sgt. Todd Laycock.
Police arrived at a three-story apartment complex near 127th Street and 117th Avenue at around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, said Kevin Rothermal, who lives in the building.
Police appeared to be investigating a suite across the hallway from where Rothermal lives. A middle-aged man named Mike lives in the first-floor suite, Rothermal said, adding that he doesn’t know him very well.
Rothermal said he didn’t hear anything out of the ordinary on Tuesday evening.
“Don’t have a clue (about what happened),” Rothermal said while standing outside his building. Police kept residents out of the building until at least midnight on Tuesday evening.
A police forensics truck was parked on 117th Avenue in front of the stucco building, and police tape surrounded the front and back entrances to the residence. Police officers could be seen in the front hallway of the building, and some were slowly walking around the first floor.
A window of a first-floor suite appeared to be shattered. A blanket covering the broken class fluttered in the wind.
There has been a record-breaking 45 homicides in 2011.
