Randall Hopley, the man suspected of kidnapping little Kienan Hebert, was arrested by the RCMP near the B.C.-Alberta border Tuesday morning.
Hopley was arrested in Alberta, 3 km from the border at Crowsnest Pass Lake.
7 1/2 year-old police dog Taz from the Kelowna RCMP detachment had been tracking Hopley through the night, and led officers to his location this morning just before 10 a.m.
Police say he was hiding in a gravel pit just off the highway.
The surrounding area has been cordoned off and police are searching for a possible accomplice with the help of a helicopter and ATVs.
He is in custody and was transported to the Sparwood RCMP detachment, before being moved to Cranbrook for his arraignment.
The boy reappeared, unharmed, in his vacant family home in the southeastern B.C. community of Sparwood early Sunday morning.
The toddler was left sleeping on an oversized chair as the abductor called 911 to inform emergency services of the child's whereabouts.
Kienan's father, Paul Hebert, said he found the child sleeping in the family's living room.
A day earlier, the family made a desperate plea for the safe return of Kienan, who was taken from the family home in the early morning hours of Sept. 7.
RCMP Cpl. Dan Moskaluk said Kienan "was virtually unharmed. . . . He does not have any physical injuries."
RCMP have scheduled a press conference for 4 p.m. Tuesday where they will release more details of the arrest. Global BC will stream the press conference live online.
