Fire crews in St. Albert were kept busy early Saturday morning, after fire broke out in a local church.

Shortly after 1:00a.m. alarms began to ring at Braeside Presbyterian Church in St. Albert. Crews arrived to find smoke coming from inside the building.

"It started in our minister's office, or between the walls between the minister's office and coffee area," explained George Lumsden from Braeside Presbyterian Church.

About 60 people attend the church every week. Despite the damage to the inside of the church, service will still go ahead Sunday.

"We're hopefully still going to have service tomorrow because our sanctuary wasn't hit at all," said Lumsden.

No one was inside the church at the time of the fire.

Lumsden says it is believed to have been electrical wiring that caused the blaze however, the cause is still under investigation.
