EDMONTON - A manhunt is on for one man while RCMP confirm another is dead in relation to the officer shooting near Killam on Tuesday.
On Wednesday morning, police entered the rural residence they had surrounded since the shooting.
They found one man dead but have not confirmed his identity.
Police are looking for 27-year-old Sawyer Clarke Robison, who they say lives at the rural residence where two RCMP officers were shot while trying to seize a .45 calibre handgun. According to a witness, he was seen leaving the house as RCMP arrived at the scene.
Robison is described as 6 feet and 200 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. He is fit and is driving a black 2000 Chevrolet Silverado with Alberta licence plate UZE 545 like the one below.
He is considered to be a person of interest, but RCMP do not believe he is a danger to the public.
"He's more of a threat to RCMP members, authority and law enforcement," said Sgt. Patrick Webb with the RCMP, adding "he's certainly believed to be armed - likely with long barrel weapons, and at this time, we don't know where he is but we would certainly like to find him."
If you see him you are asked to call 911.
Meanwhile, the condition of the two officers shot is improving.
“I”d like to tell you that the RCMP officers that were shot (Tuesday) have undergone surgery and are recovering at this time,” announced Chief Supt. Rick Taylor of the RCMP.
