Edmonton police are urging residents not to open their doors to strangers or allow them into their homes.
The warning comes after several reports of a suspicious man who has been going door-to-door, allegedly asking for money for a tow truck or locksmith. At times the suspect has also asked residents to use their computer to contact his in-vehicle security company.
Officers say some people have let the suspect into their homes, and while they go to get him money, he allegedly steals items like laptops, cell phones, tablets and other small electronic devices.
EPS is asking for the public's help in locating 31-year-old Shaun Allan Cartwright, who is wanted on warrants for fraud (x3) and breach of recognizance (x3).
Cartwright is described as:
- Caucasian
- 175 cm tall (5'9" tall)
- 70 kilograms (155 pounds)
- Dirty blonde or brown hair
Police say Cartwright has allegedly been active in the Meadowlark area recently, and are urging residents to be careful.
"Be aware of suspicious activity in your community," Staff Sergeant Dale Fenrich said in a media release Wednesday. "This type of crime is preventable and people should take the proper precautions to protect themselves."
If Cartwright shows up at your home, officers say to call 911 immediately, do not let him in your home or give him any money.
Officers are asking anyone who sees any suspicious activity to call the EPS complaint line at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile device.
