Police lay charges in Riverbend standoff

Police have spent more than 12 hours trying to urge an armed;barricaded man to end a standoff at a Riverbend residence.

EDMONTON - Police have laid charges against a 46-year-old man after a sixteen hour standoff that lasted from the evening of Sunday, June 17th to the mid day on Monday, June 18th.

Patrick Crawford, 46, has been charged with uttering threats, pointing a firearm, two counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, and careless use/storage of a firearm.

According to police, the incident started as a reported domestic dispute call in the Riverbend neighbourhood.

When investigators arrived, they found a male resident alone inside the home, and they believed he had at least one firearm.

The standoff eventually ended after a police armoured vehicle with a ramming device was used to breach the garage door of the home.

The suspect was transported to hospital as a precaution.
