Pedestrian struck in northend crash

A crash in the city's northend sent a pedestrian to hospital Wednesday evening.

EDMONTON - A woman was taken to hospital Wednesday evening after being hit by an SUV that ended up on the sidewalk following a collision.

The two-vehicle crash involving the pedestrian happened on Brintnell Boulevard and 47th street on our city's northend. Area residents say the intersection is notorious for crashes.

"The way the road curves, you can't see traffic coming and they're traveling at 50 kilometres an hour. Cars will come out past the yield sign and people will get hit," explains Ryan Dhanoo.

Scott Sontag also says he regularly sees collisions in this area, and has even tried to lobby the city to put in stop signs to get people to slow down. But the city, he says, told him that stop signs are meant to control traffic, not speed. Sontag tells us he now plans to start another petition.

"It's a scary, scary situation. It's a death trap," he says.

The condition of the woman injured in Wednesday's crash is not known.
