EDMONTON - One woman is dead and four others are in hospital after taking drugs at a party on Canada Day, Edmonton police have confirmed. Just after 4 p.m., police were called to a condominium at 106th Avenue and 120th Street, where they found the young woman dead.
Police are calling her death suspicious.
Two other women are in critical condition and two men have also been taken to hospital, Insp. Brian Nowlan said.
All of the patients are in their early 20s. One of the men called 9-1-1.
Nowlan said "quite a quantity of pills" were found at the address. Police are still working to determine what the drugs are exactly.
"We don't know what drug was ingested. We are trying to ascertain from the two gentlemen who are in the best condition exactly what was ingested," he said.
According to Nowlan, the men are in "no condition to speak at the moment," though.
