EDMONTON - The mother of Travis Baumgartner, the 21 year-old man wanted for the killings of 3 of his fellow G4S security guards, is making an emotional plea to her son.
"I'm sorry that we had an argument last night, and had bad words between us, but I want you to come home and do the right thing. Let's work this out together," Sandy Baumgartner told police, who read her statement at a press conference Friday evening.
"You are not alone, Trav. Please, I love you and want to help you. Call police now and end this peacefully."
Her son is currently wanted on Canada-wide warrants for three counts of first-degree murder, and one count of attempted murder as there is still one security guard who is fighting for his life in hospital.
Baumgartner was the fifth security guard who was making a delivery at the University of Alberta's Hub Mall around midnight. Police were called out to the scene after receiving a call of shots fired. They arrived to find three of the guards dead, and one injured. Hub Mall, which is home to hundreds of University students, was locked down as police investigated the shooting.
Homicide detectives say their investigation is now complete.
"We want Travis to take responsibility for this situation and turn himself in to police," said Superintendent of EPS's Criminal Investigation Division, Bob Hassel in a release.
Police also said they know Baumgartner switched the license plate on the Ford F-150 truck he is believed to be driving:
They believe his most recent vehicle plate is CAA 636.
Anyone who spots him or the vehicle is urged not to approach him as he is thought to be armed and dangerous. They should contact the EPS complaint line at (780) 423-4567 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
