EDMONTON - Edmonton police have closed all but one westbound lane on 111th Avenue between 101st and 102nd Streets after a man was severely injured and taken to hospital Monday afternoon.

Police responded to a report of an injured man who had fallen down in front of Royal Alex Place, at 10106 111th Ave., just before 4 p.m. on Monday. The man was taken to Royal Alexandra Hospital up the street.

Police cannot comment on the investigation but say it is in its early stages.

Two police cruisers and one van remain on scene.

Representatives from Alberta Health Services could not provide an update on the man’s condition Monday afternoon.

Cheerio Liquor Store owner Kem Cheong sold a 15-pack of beer and box of vodka coolers to two men and a woman on Monday afternoon. One of the men, a regular customer, asked for four garbage bags. Cheong gave him one blue garbage bag.

A short time later, another customer told Cheong a man had been robbed of a pack of beer and killed down the block.

An opened box of vodka coolers, a grey shoe and a blue garbage bag can be seen on the sidewalk in front of Royal Alex Place enclosed in the area taped off by police.
