Lac La Biche RCMP advise against travel in northeastern Alberta

Lac La Biche RCMP are urging motorists to drive with extreme caution on area highways.

Officer say while conditions in some areas have improved, many highways are still in poor driving condition.

Travel is not recommended on Highway 858 or on Highway 881 from Lac La Biche to Fort McMurray.

Officers say Highway 36, Highway 663 and Highway 55 are all in fair driving condition however, all three have sections of black ice.

There is snow falling in Lac La Biche County that is accumulating on the roadways.

Environment Canada has also issued a wind chill warning for a number of communities in northeastern Alberta.

Affected areas include Fort Chipewyan, Wood Buffalo National Park, Fort McMurray, Fort MacKay, Bonnyville, St. Paul, Cold Lake, Lac La Biche, Lloydminster, Wainwright, Vermilion and Provost.

The wind chill is expected to make the temperature feel like minus 40 or cooler Saturday night and into Sunday morning.

RCMP are advising drivers to stay put if they don't have to travel.
