EDMONTON - A rookie legislature member and former high-ranking Alberta health executive has been named the province's new energy minister.
Ken Hughes' promotion is one of many changes Premier Alison Redford has made to her cabinet following last month's election victory.
Doug Horner becomes the top money man, adding Finance to his Treasury Board portfolio.
Solicitor General Jonathan Denis will also assume the duties of the Justice Department in one combined ministry.
Fred Horne remains health minister and Dave Hancock keeps his job as head of Human Services.
Thomas Lukaszuk is now Deputy Premier and will no longer be Education Minister. That responsibility will fall to Jeff Johnson.
The cabinet will have 19 members, including Redford, which is two less than the pre-election group.
The Seniors ministery has now been brought under the Health umbrella and Sustainable Resource Development is now contained in the Environment ministry.
Of the 19 members, 6 are from Calgary and 4 from Edmonton with 2 coming from St. Albert. The rest are from elsewhere in the province.
In addition to Hughes, 3 other new MLAs were appointed to cabinet positions.
Here is a list of the entire Cabinet:
