Hundreds mourn death of Kyle Fundytus on Twitter, Facebook

Kyle Fundytus

Hockey Edmonton says the weekend death of a 16-year-old player was a freak accident.

The organization says Kyle Fundytus was wearing an approved neck guard when he was hit in the neck with a puck Saturday.

Grief counsellors are talking to players from both teams as well as students at the teen's school.

Hockey Canada and Hockey Alberta are expected to review the incident.

Using the hashtag #prayforfundy, friends and teammates of Fundytus took to Twitter Saturday evening to send him their best wishes.

By late Sunday morning, the messages had turned to notes of grief and condolence following reports Fundytus had died.
