Forensics and homicide unit called to child abuse complaint in south Edmonton

EDMONTON - An incident at a home near 25 Avenue and 115 Street, just off Saddleback Road, drew a strong police presence to the neighbourhood on Friday.

Police have remained tight-lipped since being called out to the Blue Quill home around 1:30 Friday morning. On Saturday, police spokesperson Chad Orydzuk confirmed that police are investigating a child abuse complaint.

One neighbour tells Global News she was told by an officer that one child was taken away from the home by ambulance. Police spent time door-knocking in an attempt to find out more about the family. Neighbours, though, say the family normally keeps to themselves, so they don't know much about them, other than knowing they have two young twin girls.

"It's a bit of a concern when you're a parent. You immediately relate that to your own kids and kids safety, so it is a bit disturbing," says area resident, Sylvain Riel.

On Friday, the walkway behind the home was taped off.

"And the forensic unit was there for a good 20 hours," says Rhonda Gordon, who lives nearby.

The homicide unit was also on scene until late Friday night collecting evidence alongside the forensics investigators. Police say there has been no death, though.

We'll have more information as it becomes available.
