SHERWOOD PARK – Strathcona County Emergency Services was called to a house explosion on Sage Crescent in Sherwood Park Monday morning.

When crews arrived, they found the blast had caused major damage to the home.

"There was considerable damage to the main occupancy,” said Deputy Fire Chief Bob Davidson with Strathcona County Emergency Services.

“We're not sure on the extent of damage to the adjacent occupancies at this time but we're investigating that as well."

No one was injured in the explosion.

Neighbours say they heard a loud ‘pop’ and then saw smoke and flames.

Davidson says crews responded quickly, and that the response time in the urban Sherwood Park area is always fast.

While the cause of the blast has not been confirmed, emergency crews are using the incident to remind residents to be extremely careful when using natural gas.

“Always call before you dig if you’re going to be doing any kind of digging at all,” says Davidson.

“Be sure that you have experts on scene that absolutely know about natural gas and the properties of the gas itself.”
