Father takes stand in Millet mom murder trial

EDMONTON - The father of the two children killed in their Millet home took the stand at the murder trial of the boys’ mother.

Curtis McConnell was on his way to work when the police called to say his wife had fallen off a bridge. He was told his kids were okay, but he decided to go to his Millet home anyway. He described what happened when he arrived and how he discovered the boys’ bodies floating in the bathtub in February 2010.

“I just dropped to my knees,” McConnell told the court, “I reached into the water. The water is cold, I could feel something in there. They were so cold and stiff. I have to pull them out. She just left them there to rot.”

He then ran to a neighbour’s house and told a friend, “They’re dead. Allyson killed them. My children are dead.”

McConnell then broke down on the stand and was crying describing what he did after pulling the boys out of the water.

“I’m looking away, I don’t want to see their dead faces.”

Allyson McConnell is charged with second degree murder in the deaths of her sons Jayden, 10 months old, and Connor McConnell, two years old.

Allyson has admitted to drowning the toddlers in an agreed statement of facts released Monday but has pleaded not guilty.
