Family of missing man still searching for answers

It's been six years since 29 year-old Michael Feist's car was last seen. On January 13, 2006, his maroon Honda hatchback, in working condition and still with half a tank of gas inside, was found abandoned on Highway 43 northwest of Edmonton. Its owner, though, was nowhere to be found - and that has left his family with a lot of answered questions.

"The whole aspect of his disappearance is a real big mystery," says his father, Barry Feist. "People will sometimes leave and whatever, but for him to have his vehicle out by Mayerthrope - for what reason?"

Despite not having seen or heard from his son in so long, Barry still holds out hope that he is out there somewhere.

"I honestly believe that either he's going to show up someday or someone is going to call and say we saw him somewhere. The guesses - I could go on."

Barry admits that although Michael had become quite reclusive in the weeks before he vanished, he doesn't think his son would have taken his own life. Instead, Barry believes he could be living in B.C., have joined a religious group, or even been kidnapped.

While police don't suspect foul play, they also don't know what happened to Feist or why he disappeared.

"We have nothing solid. Our leads have dried up and we aren't generating any tips at this point," says Doris Stapleton with the RCMP.

Investigators, along with Feist's family, are hoping someone out there either knows or saw something - and will come forward and contact either Spruce Grove RCMP or Crime Stoppers.

Until then, Michael's loved ones will continue wondering what happened to him, and if they'll ever find closure.
