An Edmontonian is voicing her concerns with the city's newest LRT station. She believes the century park station wasn't constructed with all residents needs taken into consideration

Falon Snyder described her recent trip on Edmonton's LRT as a nightmare.

"I actually got frostbite in my cheeks and everything because we were stuck down there for so long."

On Friday morning, Snyder was trying to leave the Century Park station after returning from downtown.

"We were waiting for the elevator with another older lady and realized that the elevator was actually frozen."

With the temperature 25 below zero, Snyder says she had no choice but to take the escalator, a difficult task since she is confined to a wheelchair because of serious knee problems. she says she handed her wheelchair to her boyfriend and hopped on to the escalator with one leg.

"I did actually hurt myself trying to get on to that. I haven't been able to use my crutches barely at all ever since then because I really hurt this leg trying to get up the escalator."

Snyder said not only was the elevator not working, but the parking lot doesn't have handicapped parking...or properly placed wheelchair ramps. The incident has Snyder calling for the city to make the century park station more "wheelchair friendly."

"Even if they didn't heat the terminal that's fine, but at least make sure the elevator shaft is heated so that this doesn't become a problem."

An official with the city's transportation services department says the Century Park station has state-of-the-art equipment but machines do break down and the elevator is being looked at.

"ETS is aware of the situation and will make sure that the facility at Century Park, the elevator is functioning properly."
